The exhibition celebrates The Quest, the new animated feature based on Mihály Vörösmarty’s classic play, Csongor and Tünde (alternative title The Quest). Directed by Csaba Máli and Zsolt Pálfi, the film was produced by Cinemon Entertainment under the leadership of Réka Temple and premiered in Hungarian cinemas in April 2025. It authentically preserves the spirit of the original story, placing great emphasis on the timeless subjects of Vörösmarty’s play: the search for happiness, the power of true love, and the dilemmas of the individual and the community. Csongor’s search for his path and his love for Tünde lead him into a magical world where heroes face challenges set by fairies, witches and little devils.
The exhibition presents interesting facts about the literary work from a theatre-historical perspective, offering context for the animated film, especially for younger audiences. It also offers insight into the process of filmmaking, including Attila Dargay’s original character designs, on which the film was based, and which carry the spirit of a definitive era of Hungarian animation. All the while the modern, spectacular world of 2D animation that gives new life to the classic story will also be presented. Visitors can learn how this adaptation came about, fusing the world of Vörösmarty’s two-hundred-year-old masterpiece and the half-century legacy of Dargay with current technical expectations.
The exhibition offers a great experience not only to fans of Hungarian literature and animation, but also to anyone open to exploring a magical fairy tale world. This visually rich and interactive exhibition speaks to children and adults alike.
