The most emblematic pieces of Hungarian slide filmmaking are those based on children’s stories. Since the beginning of slide film production, classic masters of Hungarian animation were involved in it, such as Gyula Macskássy, Attila Dargay, Tibor Csermák, Zsolt Richly and Marcell Jankovics among others, who not only adapted their cartoons and stop-motion animations to still-image slide films, but also created original works published exclusively in slide film format. The slide film adaptations of cartoons are not simply a series of frozen frames taken from motion pictures, but new interpretations of the films or literary works they are based on.
The exhibition guides us through slide film adaptations by the most important animation studios, “original slide films” created by various artists, and works that were later turned into animated films. The exhibition features 120 slide film illustrations by a total of 28 artists.
