40-year-old Kecskemét Animation Film Festival is now six day long – the call for entries is on!

Unlike previous years, the 17th KAFF is organized a month earlier in 2025, and it is even longer than before: the now six-day-long festival is held between 27 May and 1 June. Hungary’s biggest animated film competition, presenting the latest Hungarian and European works of animation biannually, is now open for submissions. The competition programme of the festival accepts Hungarian and European animated works completed after 1 March 2023, without thematic restrictions. Registering the films is free. Entry deadline: 24 February 2025.

The 17th Kecskemét Animation Film Festival is now open for submissions. The competition programme of the festival accepts Hungarian and European animated works completed after 1 March 2023, without thematic restrictions. The submitted film has to be made frame by frame, with some kind of animation technique. Note that over 50% of the film has to be animated. The Hungarian competition accepts works that were made in Hungary, or by a Hungarian director. The European competition accepts films that have at least 50% European ownership.

Hungarian films compete in six categories: Feature Film, TV Special, Short Film, TV Series, Applied Animation (commercial, signal, trailer, main title, music video) and Student Film. The competition categories for European films are Feature Film, TV Special and TV Series.

Films can be registered without having to pay an entry fee, and creators can enter multiple submissions. Entry deadline: 24 February 2025. Entries can be submitted through the festival website, where the full description of the call for entries is also available: www.kaff.hu. The pre-selection of the 17th Kecskemét Animation Film Festival programme is planned for March 2025.

The entire programme will be shown to the audience with free admission to screenings during the 17th Kecskemét Animation Film Festival.

The first animation showcase was held in 1985 in Kecskemét. The showcase became a festival in 1993, by then not only presenting the latest Hungarian works, but also adding more and more programmes showcasing foreign films. Since 1996, recent European animated feature films have their own competition.

KAFF aims to present the widest selection possible survey of Hungarian and international animated films created in the past two years. Beyond the competition programmes, thematic panorama screenings, retrospective selections, professional consultations and masterclasses, as well as workshops, exhibitions make the festival programme even more diverse.
